ISSN: 2392-277X

The aim of the article is to prove the need to use transcriptions of well-known musical works in the didactics of playing for four hands and two pianos. It presents the genesis of the concept of transcription, traces the development of transcription in the context of the history of musical forms, and analyzes its performance aspects. The article presents the advantages of transcription as a study developing the piano workshop and deepening the art of interpretation. The publication also contains a list of transcribed works available in the Petrucci Library and a list of author's transcriptions of nineteenth-century Polish composers, intended for playing with four hands. The article also contains a link to recordings made by the author of the article – in a duet with Agata Kalińska-Bonińska – of selected transcriptions of popular opera, symphonic and chamber works.
